ANZACC is proud to Honor...
Pamela Smart
Pamela
Smart is a passionate collector and promoter of rare and
meritorious art, antiques and exquisite furnishings.
She’s become well-known in Aspen, Colorado, and most
recently, Atlanta, Georgia, for her elite art collection
displayed at
www.pamsmart.net. Smart is a successful
businesswoman, dedicated contributor to charitable
causes, wife and mother of three children.
Corporate growth
Ms. Smart graduated from Eastern Kentucky University
with a bachelor’s degree in health information. In 1985,
she began a 15-year career with Smart Corporation, the
world’s largest health document processor. In her first
position as area manager, she oversaw 90 hospitals in
Kentucky and Ohio and helped grow annual sales to $1.4
million in two years. Smart earned a Certificate of
Achievement award from Smart Corporation for Outstanding
Achievement as Area Manager in 1986 and was named the
American Health Information Management Association’s
Young Professional of the Year in 1989. Also in 1989,
Pam wrote, “Meeting Increased Demands for Medical Record
Information” for a top health information management
trade journal.
Soon after, Ms. Smart joined the corporate office in
Torrance, California as Vice President of Marketing and
developed its first nationwide marketing campaign. She
and her husband John grew Smart Corporation to more than
$80 million in sales while servicing more than 5,000
health care providers. They sold the company in 2003,
but continue to maintain an ownership interest.
All things beautiful
After selling Smart Corporation, Pam returned to her
love of art when she purchased the Duval Smart Gallery
in Aspen, Colorado in 2003. Smart was able to focus her
marketing and business skills on the collection and sale
of fine art. The added resources and business sense that
Smart contributed allowed the Duval Smart Gallery to
gain a national presence, with participation in national
art fairs, speaking engagements and national
advertising.
Ms. Smart applied her business acumen to the acquisition
of luxury property. In just a few years, she has
acquired The Lodge, one of the largest and most opulent
homes in Aspen; The Penthouse Gallery, which houses part
of her art and fine furnishings collection, the Manor in
Atlanta; and the Beach Paradise house in Santa Rosa
Beach, Florida. All four of these properties are
available for long or short term leases for photo
shoots, commercials, weddings, retreats, private
receptions and family gatherings.
Most recently, Ms. Smart launched a website to display
and sell her collections of art and fine furnishings.
Artists displayed on the site are: Pablo Picasso signed
prints and ceramics, Damien Hirst, Jean Cocteau, Henri
Moore, Jean Arp and Patrick Hughes. The furniture site
contains Armoires, chandeliers, decorative objects,
desks and more.
A big heart for others
Pam’s natural inclination toward the healing arts is
also expressed in her long hours of volunteer work
helping others. In 2001, she founded Heart to Heart for
Kids, Inc., a non-profit family foundation whose mission
is to bring lasting, positive change to the lives of
underprivileged children. As the youngest of seven
children born in Kentucky’s Appalachian Mountains, Ms.
Smart learned first-hand about poverty during her
childhood. Her early personal experiences have fueled
her passion for helping the needy – especially children.
Heart to Heart for Kids, Inc. supports non-profit
organizations and individuals throughout metro-Atlanta,
including My Sister’s House of the Atlanta Union
Mission, Genesis Shelter, Children First Learning
Center, Jerusalem House, My House and Carl E. Sanders
YMCA. Working on a part-time basis over the last four
years, Pam has raised and donated over $500,000.00. One
hundred percent of the money raised by Heart to Heart
for Kids, Inc. goes directly to organizations and
individuals it supports. Smart was honored with the
“Woman of Distinction” award in 2004 from the Crohn’s &
Colitis Foundation for her work with Heart to Heart for
Kids, Inc. In addition to her committed work with Heart
to Heart for Kids, Pam has devoted thousands of
volunteer hours to the Big Sisters program, Assistance
League of Southern California, Harbor House, the Junior
Leagues of Atlanta and Los Angeles, the March of Dimes,
the U. S. Chapter of the Animal Health Trust and the
High Museum of Art.
