ANZACC NEWS
Down Under Ball 2007
Thank you for making the 2007 Ball an outstanding success!
Through your generous participation in the Down Under
Ball this year, ANZACC has been able
to donate $44,000 to our charity partner - US Fund for
UNICEF - and the Down Under Ball was a direct catalyst
in further contributions to UNICEF of $25,000.
This brings the 2007 total to $69,000, and brings our total funds raised
for UNICEF in the last four years to just over $161,000.
This has only been possible through your generous
efforts - thank you!
Southeast Regional Director for US Fund for UNICEF -
Barron Segar - attended a function where the ANZACC
Board paid tribute to the incredible efforts of our Down
Under Ball Committee.
Barron noted that the funds raised this year alone
could:
- purchase vaccines to immunize 345,000 children
against measles
- provide 31,363 children with schooling during an
emergency through School-in-a-Box kits
- provide clothing, bedding, and blankets to 1,104
children who have been separated from their families
One of the fundraising highlights this year was the
UNICEF School-in-a-Box. You directly contributed 72
School in a Box kits to UNICEF - thank you!
School-in-a-Box is a ready-made educational solution
packed in a lockable metal box, containing equipment
such as pencils, exercise books, scissors, and carrier
bags sufficient for pupils, and equipment for a teacher.
These units are a
great way to support UNICEF -

ANZACC Golf 2007
About 20 golfers joined ANZACC for golf at
Atlanta's premier course - Bear's Best at Suwanee, ranked in the
"Top ten courses you can play in America" by Golf Magazine
- on June 11, 2007.
The game was played under overcast skies,
but fortunately the rain held off until the
end of the day.
The golfers teed off after a box lunch, with
fore caddies assisting them in locating
their errant shots and “reading” the breaks
in the greens.
We all gathered in the clubhouse at the end
of the day for a buffet supper,
refreshments, and prize-giving. Prizes were
awarded for the 4 closest to the pins, and
the 2 long drive contest winners were Mike
Hereford, and Ben Cooper.
ANZACC thanks the following sponsors for
making this an enjoyable event:
- Beryl Farris LLC Immigration Law
- playing cards, 2007 Georgia maps, and
Par 3 contests
- Zep Manufacturing (Phil Snellen) - logo golf balls
- QANTAS (Carol Romero) - gift baskets
- John Walter - Australian PGA caps
- ANZACC Atlanta was also a major sponsor of the event

ANZACC vs BABG Cricket 2007
England (British American Business Group) vs Australia
(ANZACC) -
Sunday 5/7/07 at the Atlanta International School.
Australia batted first and scored 141 on a very
grassy pitch. The strike rate was an excellent 5.42
runs per over. Nearly all the Australians looked
comfortable with the bat with outstanding performances
by Mark Wuttke, Damien Sheehan and Angus Haig.
The highlight of the day was the Australian bowling.
Adam Stephens, Simon Davis and Damien Sheehan were
too good and much to quick for our English opponents.
The English batsmen never got comfortable with the
pace attack. David Watson (team surgeon) and Stephen
Bagley also got some awesome turn and a bagfull
of wickets as spinners.
England all out 72. Currently Australia leads 2
games to 1 in a contest that is rapidly becoming
an Atlanta tradition.
The World Cup Cricket live telecast on April 29th
at the Brewhouse Pub in Little Five Points proved
a great recruiting opportunity for the Aussies and
consequently we fielded our strongest and youngest
team ever.
The game was played with great sportsmanship and
a good time was had by all (with assistance from
6 doz Australian beers).
With thanks to:
- Andy McCartney from the BABG
- Amanda Hodges (Trade Commissioner and Consul-General,
Austrade and the Australian Consulate General)
- the Atlanta International School
- Wuttke Group for excellent photography [images]
